The presence of a washbasin and a faucet is a must in every kitchen, as plenty of things need to be constantly washed with water, while cooking or serving in the kitchens. Hence, it is the duty of the house owner to be really choosy about the selection of the sink for his/her kitchen, as there are varieties of basins available in the market. Kitchen Basin Cleaning

Basic pointers to select a basin for the kitchen

  • Consider the size available for the sinks – First of all, the size of the basin depends on the amount of space available in the kitchen, for its installation. A small sized kitchen has to fit only a small and single basin; while a larger kitchen may accommodate a double or triple bowl sink.
  • Differs according to installation process – The self rimming sink is the easiest basin available, which can be installed, just by dropping into the cutout of the countertop that is meant for installing basin only. The under mount sink may be arranged to install from underneath the countertop, by additional supports or by gluing firmly to the countertop. Flash mount basins are also installed by dropping in the given space of the countertops that are made of tiles only.

Select the ideal material for a kitchen sink

  • Many house owners prefer stainless steel sinks, due to its bright appearance that matches with other steel objects of the kitchen. Moreover, steel sink is easy to clean and is highly durable, due to the immense strength of this material. This sink is also available at a cheap price, though too thin steel may create too much noise and under mount installation is safely used for this type of sink.
  • Nowadays, acrylic sinks are in fashion, due to their easy affordability and the smooth surfaces that can be cleaned very easily, as this material is stain resistant and much lighter than other materials used for making sinks. But acrylic cannot stand heat or petroleum based objects, so the users need to be careful.
  • Solid surface sinks are built of the same material that is used for the countertops, so that the joints are seamless and easy to install. These sinks are also preferred for great longevity and very easy maintenance; their surfaces can be cleaned just by scrubbing with mild cleaning agent and water. But even these sinks cannot stand too high temperatures or clash with very heavy object, due to which the sink may be cracked and needs replacement.

  • The sinks made of cast iron are also preferred in some households, due to their high durability, which is increased by the hard porcelain enamel coating that is created by very high temperature. These sinks are easy to clean with mild soap or detergent, but it is better not to use any harsh chemical agent. These sinks are available in various colors and make the kitchens more attractive with their glossy appearances. Any slight rust or chip in the iron can be repaired very easily.
  • Fireclay is a strong and durable form of ceramic that is used for making kitchen sinks, which are very hard and durable in nature. These sinks are also liked for their glossy finish and suitable color range of white, blue, gray, black or off white. But these sinks are quite expensive for the common people, though it is resistant to chipping or any other kinds of damage.
  • The kitchen sinks can be made of heavy stones, like granite, soapstone or even marble, due to extreme longevity of the material. But these sinks are too heavy and likely to need a larger support for installation, which is preferably done with a kitchen cabinet beneath the sink.
