Types of Coating used on Fiberglass Pool
The fiberglass usually holds certain type of paints coatings. They are as the following:
- Gel coating: The gel coating is quite important on these types of pools for protection. This coating can be done by using any type of paint. If you want to repaint your pool, then you have to strip off the coating of fiberglass and have to replace it after the painting is done. Also, this coating will always be extremely clear. so you can make it thicker to prevent your pool from leaks and wear.
- Epoxy paints: If you want to change the color of the fiberglass by means of painting, then you will need epoxy paint. Usually, these paints are manufactured from the chemical compounds to add additional strength to fiberglass by hardening the waterproof layer. You can also use these paints to fix cracks or chips on the fiberglass.
- Multiple layers: To have a fiberglass pool with some special effects, you have to paint multiple layers on it before installation. And, if you want to repaint your pool which has several colors, then it will be a little difficult to match the perfect texture. So, in this case, it will be better to contact a professional to imitate the original texture of the pool in an excellent manner.
- Other paints: Apart
from the epoxy paints and gel coats, you should not use any other paint
as they will corrode quickly and there is a great chance that the paint
may peel off too. It may also have be harmful effects if dissolved in
water. Thus, it is better to use the paints which are particularly
designed for pools as well as fiberglass.
