Car Battery – Key Maintaining Tips

The battery in your car is the integral part of what starts and keeps your vehicle running. It is considered the heart and soul of a vehicle's electrical system. Yet you take it for granted that your car will start every morning when you switch it on, you are forgetting that battery maintenance is required to keep a car running. Even worst thing you want to avoid is to be stuck on a cold winter night because the battery of your car died. Many things are there, which you have to make sure, if you do not want to keep facing such problems repeatedly over the time.

  1. Regularly drive your car - Well, everyone knows that driving your vehicle regularly keeps the battery well charged. In case, you know that your car will be standing for a few weeks, arrange for someone who can start the car at least twice a week. If this is done for a few minutes a week, it will maintain the car battery and keep it charged. In addition, if you do not have anyone to help you out for the same it will be wise if you just disconnect your battery before going.
  2. Make sure battery is secure - It is important that your car battery remain in its place firmly. Your battery should never vibrate or move. Hence, make sure that it is in its correct place. Any kind of movement and vibrations can damage the cells within the battery. So, if you hear any weird sound of vibration or any other such similar noise from under the car hood it is advised to once check the battery.

  5. Never jump-start flat battery - Most of the cars today are packed with electronics just waiting to be blown by the careless connection. This can happen because jump-starting a flat car battery can sometimes send excessive current directly to the system and can damage the electronics. If it is needed, then make sure that before you jump-start your headlights are switched off.

Keep the battery cool - Though sometimes it is difficult to maintain the battery cool due to a high temperature it is recommended that you try to park the car in shaded or cooler areas whenever possible. Avoiding direct sunlight can keep your car battery cool. Overheating can cause major damage to the car batteries due to water loss as well as heat distortion.
  7. Check the fluids - Topping up your battery fluids is an essential thing for your car’s battery life. If you maintain the levels of the fluids, it will extend your battery's life. Also, make sure that you use only distilled water to fill the battery cells.
  8. Replace the battery - Well, these are the most common question many car owners ask that how often they should replace the battery? Batteries tend to lose life and power with time. It is recommended that you replace your battery in every 3-4 years depending on the condition in which your battery is.
